Dr. Peter Kansas
Dr. Peter Kansas is a Board Certified Ophthalmologist with over 35 years experience in the Capital Region.

He is a Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology at the Albany Medical College, Founder of Kansas Eye Surgery Associates and co-founder of the Albany Regional Eye Surgery Center.

Dr. Kansas conceived and developed “Manual Small Incision Cataract Extraction with Implants” in 1982 using 6 to 7 mm scleral tunnels and single suture closure. In 1991 he incorporated the no stitch wound architecture. In 1995 he reduced the scleral tunnel size to 4.0 mm with foldable implants.

Dr. Kansas holds US Patent Number 5156607: Manual Small Incision Cataract Extraction Method and Instrument. In 1992, his Phacosection technique was chosen as one of the Ten Best Surgical Techniques in the World by Ocular Surgery News.

He is the textbook author of: “PHACOSECTION (sm) Manual Small Incision Cataract Surgery”, co-author of “Small Incision Manual Cataract Surgery (Mini-Nuc and Fluidics; Phacosection and Viscoexpression) as well as numerous contributions to medical textbooks and peer reviewed articles. In addition Dr. Kansas has designed the Kansas (sm) Phacosection (sm) Instruments.

Dr. Kansas is invited to speak internationally and conducts wet labs to teach surgical techniques to fellow physicians. He has participated in the Orbis International mission to provide eye care and surgical interventions to underdeveloped areas of Kingston, Jamaica.

He has been invited to join the International Intra-ocular Implant Club (IIIC), an international organization of noted ophthalmologists.
